Rye class have been imagining what it was like to be evacuated and live with a family other than our own. Using different source materials, we’ll learn about evacuation and write letters to our families ‘back home’. They have used pastels to create persuasive propaganda posters to support the war effort.
Their whole class reading has them looking at Carrie’s War and Goodnight Mr. Tom furthering their love and skills in reading, whilst also developing a greater understanding of the life of evacuees. They have also written some fantastic poetry relating to these themes.
This has been bought to life hugely by a visit to Eden Camp museum.
Eden Camp
We got put into 5 groups with Mr. Cairns, Mrs. Dale, Miss Jones, Mrs. Bowman and Mrs. Camps. We went into 33 different huts which had different themes of WW2 and WW1. Eden camp was actually a prison for German people.
We came across an air raid shelter, so we went inside it we knocked on the ceiling and it felt very hard.
Someone told us there was going to be a show of a tank, at the end Kenneth got to ride a tank. Then we asked questions about the tanks, Next we had to go back into the groups, and some went to the gift shop, but some went before lunch, whilst others went to more huts.
