Science Bus visit to Ouse Class

On Thursday 21st September the Malton School Science Bus paid Ouse Class a visit. Mr. Rumney spent a fantastic morning with us teaching us all about our topic this term ‘Animals Including Humans’.

He started by showing us Frank the skeleton and discussing our bones, joints and teeth. He then made a ‘fake’ digestive system using a pair of tights and a plastic bottle. Mr. Rumney mashed up a tin of baked beans, some bread and a banana in a bowl with some salvia. He poured this into the plastic bottle (the stomach) and added some acid, then bile. This mixture was then pushed out of the stomach into the tights (the small intestine). Finally, all of the undigested matter was released as waste (poo!!). We thought this part was a bit disgusting but loved it all the same!

Next Mr. Rumney had brought a sheep’s heart to show us. We could see the chambers of the heart, the heart strings, valves and main arteries. He also had a pair of lungs so we were able to see the windpipe and the spongy tissue of the lungs.

We had a fantastic morning during our science bus visit, learnt a lot of super biology and got to see science in action.
